Seminar and Rally held by NSS Units of College against Single use Plastic

The NSS Units of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized a rally and Seminar against Single use plastics to aware the students and public about the dangerous effects of it such as degradation of quality of soil and air, environmental pollution, ecological life disruption and hazardous effects on human life as well as on flora-fauna. This event was organised in collaboration with the Eco-club and Red- Ribbon club of the college.
College Principal Dr. Neeraj Goyal while addressing the students said that Single use Plastic is creating an environmental crisis for human life and our ecological systems. He said that this plastic is non-biodegradable and takes hundreds of years to decompose and it is also responsible for releasing toxic substances and gases in the soil, air and water. He emphasized upon the intervention by the state with appropriate policies and implementation of laws to stop use of Single Use Plastic
NSS Programme officer and Nodal Officer of Red Ribbon Club Dr. Rajeev Sharma told that we should be very conscious about the purchase and use of daily use products made from the single use plastic like water bottles, plates, cups and other disposables. These are not only harmful for our environment but also degrade the quality of our air and water. Prof. Jagdeep Kaur, NSS Officer also motivated the students to say, ‘No to Plastics’ and ‘Yes to eco-friendly products’.
The In-charge of Eco-club and the Registrar of the college Dr. Ashwani Sharma said that as responsible citizens we must minimize the use of Single use Plastics and should shift to more natural and sustainable ways of consumption.
In this event Dr. Deepak Kumar, Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and a large number of students were present. The students also took a pledge to not use single use plastic.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੇ ਖਤਰਨਾਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮਿੱਟੀ, ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਵਾ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਰਾਵਟ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ, ਜੈਵਿਕਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਘਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਰੈਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਜੀਵਣ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਿਤ ਇਹ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਈਕੋ-ਕਲੱਬ ਅਤੇ ਰੈਡ-ਰਿਬਨ ਕਲੱਬ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਲਈ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਸੰਕਟ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਨਾਨ-ਬਾਇਓਡੀਗ੍ਰੇਡਬਲ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਲਣ-ਸੜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਸਾਲ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ, ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਸਾਂ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਢੁਕਵੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਖਲ ਦੇਣ ‘ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਰੈੱਡ ਰਿਬਨ ਕਲੱਬ ਦੇ ਨੋਡਲ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਡਾ. ਰਾਜੀਵ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੋਤਲਾਂ, ਪਲੇਟਾਂ, ਕੱਪਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਡਿਸਪੋਸੇਬਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਰੀਦ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਾਨੀਕਾਰਕ ਹਨ ਬਲਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਘਟਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਜਗਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਐਨ.ਐਸ.ਐਸ ਅਫਸਰ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਹ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਈਕੋ ਫਰੈਂਡਲੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਂ’ ਕਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਈਕੋ-ਕਲੱਬ ਦੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਰ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਤੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਖਪਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਡਾ. ਦੀਪਕ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਡਾ. ਗਗਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ.ਸੰਜੀਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੰਗਲ ਯੂਜ਼ ਪਲਾਸਟਿਕ ਨਾ ਵਰਤਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਹੁੰ ਵੀ ਚੁੱਕੀ।
